The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange and IMAF at The Harrison Center on June 12th 2010 was a success. There were over a 100 vendors selling their crafty art. My booth was outside and it sure was hot but not too hot to miss out on the fun. I enjoyed being a part of this. Amanda Mauer Taflinger did an amazing job in organizing the whole big shindig. After Liliana wouldn't leave me alone, because she was determined to find out the truth of KNOW NO STRANGER 's puppets, I decided to contact Michael & KNS and mention my daughters' fascination - he emailed me back:

"....I'm glad you and your daughter enjoyed it. I have a separate room for all the puppets in my house so they are very comfortable. I feed them
grilled cheese and lemonade everyday to keep them strong."

Luckily that answered a lot of questions.

Happy Valentines' s Day and Happy Chinese New Year,

THANKS for all the collaborateurs on the opening night of Proyecto: corazon/ project: heart at the Earth House Collective. It was absolutely beautiful. Know No Stranger performance was fabulous.( "think Pee Wee's Playhouse Live Action Jukebox"). My 4 year old daughter, Liliana Khadijah, has been mesmerized by the giant puppets' performance. We had seen the giant dragon before at the IMA parade in 2008 on Fountain Square. But this time she got to dance with silly, funny, quirky-looking monsters and a giant dragon. She has been intrigued in particular by the dragons' smoke coming out of his nose,... (she has been asking me non-stop where the puppets are at now,. and what they eat and such,.. I told her that they were most likely to be sleeping in a box....)

It was incredible for the young people who got to see their art along side that of Indy greats, or dance all night with a nice pink giant shark. We appreciate the long hours that everyone put into making sure everything looked amazing.

The money from the door is going with Key Learning Community on their senior trip to the Dominican Republic. The donations will be used in a Haitian Refugee camp there, on an art project with the children of the camp.

It was an evening to remember.

I am excited to tell you about an upcoming show.

Las Comadres present: Proyecto: corazon/ project: heart

Friday, February 12 (the Friday before ValentinesDay), students will be
participating in a show along local artists. This will take place
from 5-9 pm at Earth House Collective located on 237 East Street in downtown Indianapolis. There is a 3 $ suggested donation and a canned food drive happening. 100% of the door and a portion of art sales will be used to fund work done by our Key Seniors as they work with Haitian refugees in a batey (refugee camp) in the Dominican Republic.

Primarily, students from the Key Learning Community will be showing
works created in response to the theme of love. K-12 students have
created work in response to this compelling theme, showing the broad
dimension of this human condition from a variety of perspectives.

In addition, students from Center for Inquiry will be selling buttons to
help Haitian Refugees, and students from The Children’s House
(a Montessori school) will be showing a beautiful series of handmade
papersculpture. This is a great collaboration with Indianapolis' best
schools.

Artists include:
Andy Short,
Vanessa Monfreda,
Sara Pugh,
Sarah Zeta Zuckerman,
Keith Monfreda,
Know No Stranger,
Albert Beller,
Darrell L.Anderson,
Geoff Davis,
Annette Vazquez-Perales .

Work featured will be soft sculpture, stop motion animation films, paper
sculpture, tons of heart piñatas, a giant octopus, singing puppets,
painting and more. There will also be a piñata bash!

We will also have a DJ, and Earth House Collective has a delicious restaurant, so come and make a night of it. If your appetite has been stirred, please
stay at Earth House, as their weekly poetry reading “Free Speaker” will
be sponsored by the NAACP! This will be a memorable night.
