Vanessa Monfreda was born in Valparaiso, Chile but raised in Germany. Later, she finished high school in Quito, Ecuador, eventually immigrating to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1997.Vanessa has been a collage, assemblage and mixed media artist for 35 years. Her main focus is to use discarded materials such as old magazines, junk mail, newspaper or plastic toys to create art that focuses on topics of consumerism, greed, and waste. She also touches on aspects of multiculturalism. She puts all of herself, such as her life, family and her multicultural background into the art she creates.
