Vanessa Monfreda (nee' Vanessa Katia Schmollgruber) is a self-taught collage artist who was born in Valparaiso, Chile in 1970. From age 2 to 16, she was raised in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany (a little town close to Cologne). In 1986 her family moved to Quito, Ecuador. In 1997 she immigrated to the United States.
The excess of junk mail and American consumerism feed her obsession with collage and recycle art. Her work is a fusion of South American flavor, German Dada and Minimalist Pop.
She lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her three handsome sons (Sidney, 14, Stephan, 12, and Phillip Oechsle,11), little girl (Liliana Khadijah, 3) and husband (Keith A. Monfreda). They currently bought a fixer-upper which is taking most of their time.
Vanessa is available for commissions, events, installations and workshops.
